Blistering Heat: 105-Degree Heat Index, Storms Could Hit Chicago Area
The hot weather could also bring strong thunderstorms, plus a high of 97 degrees. Here's how to stay safe in the heat.
ILLINOIS — The National Weather Service Chicago is warning of dangerously hot temperatures, with heat index values over 100 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, the heat index could reach more than 105 degrees.
After a potentially stormy Sunday, Monday will bring increasing heat and the chance of severe thunderstorms and damaging winds in the afternoon.

The dangerously hot weather will start Tuesday, with a high of 97 degrees and a heat index around 105 degrees. Wednesday could potentially bring strong thunderstorms late in the day and a heat index over 100 degrees.
The heat is expected to break late in the week, the National Weather Service said. Temperatures on Thursday could hit 89 degrees, and Friday's forecast calls for a high of 84.

Stay Safe In The Heat
Heat-related illness can develop in less than 30 minutes of strenuous activity.
The NWS urges residents to limit strenuous outdoor activities and to minimize sun exposure. Near leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.
Residents should stay hydrated, with frequent breaks in air conditioning.
To keep yourself safe in extreme heat, ready.gov advises:
- Find air conditioning.
- Avoid strenuous activities.
- Watch for heat illness.
- Wear light clothing.
- Check on family members and neighbors.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
- Never leave people or pets in a closed car.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 96.
Wednesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 89.
