3 Inches Of Snow Possible Friday For Chicago Area

Arctic cold is also on the way for northern Illinois.

ILLINOIS — Some areas across Chicagoland could see up to 3 inches of snow on Thursday night into Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

"Snow will spread across the area prior to sunrise Friday and through the morning before gradually ending from west to east during the afternoon," the weather service said.

Slippery conditions are expected for the Friday morning commute. Areas north and northwest of Chicago, like Waukegan and Elgin will most likely see a dusting of snow; Chicago, Joliet and areas to the west and south will see about 1 to 2 inches of snow; and areas to the south like Kankakee will see 2 to 3 inches of snow.

The weather service said the accumulating snow will especially be for the Chicago metro and areas around and east of Interstate 55.

Looking ahead, accumulating snow is again possible on Sunday, before "arctic air" crosses the area early next week, according to the weather service.

Single digit temperatures and wind chills of 10 to 15 degrees below zero are possible Monday night into Tuesday, with sub-zero wind chills continuing Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as well, the weather service said.
