Dangerous Cold Continues, But Milder Temperatures On Horizon For IL

ILLINOIS — "Bitterly cold" temperatures and a few opportunities for snow are expected this week, after several days of wind chill values below zero.
A wind chill warning remains in effect until noon Tuesday for Kane, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, DuPage, McHenry, Lake, Cook and Will counties. Wind chills will be as low as 25 to 35 below zero, according to the National Weather Service.
Then, a wind chill advisory will go into effect from noon Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday. The weather service said another "Arctic blast" will arrive at the end of the week, and wind chills will drop below zero again.

The high for Wednesday is 26 degrees, and there is a chance of snow on Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning, the weather service said.

A more widespread round of snow is also likely Thursday night into Friday morning.
Thursday will have a high of 25, and Friday a high of 16. Wind chill values could drop to 5 below zero on Thursday and 15 below zero on Friday, according to the weather service.
During the dangerous cold, the weather service advises bringing pets indoors, limiting time outdoors, covering all exposed skin when outdoors and letting faucets drip slowly.
Milder temperatures are expected to return to the area next week, the weather service said.
Tuesday's continued extreme cold was prompting more school closings and shifts to elearning, after schools were also closed Friday due to snow and dangerously cold temperatures.
