Tornadoes Tear Roofs Off Homes In Central Illinois: Reports

Two tornadoes touched down on Sunday, the National Weather Service reported.

MACON COUNTY, IL — Two tornadoes reportedly touched down in central Illinois on Sunday, tearing the roof off multiple homes, according to the National Weather Service.

Videos posted online show the roofs ripped from homes in Mount Zion, Long Creek and Blue Mound, according to the Weather Channel, and the storms knocked out power across Macon, Tazewell, Christian and Piatt counties.

An EF-1 tornado was confirmed in Tazewell county, just south of Peoria, causing downed trees and power lines, according to WAND News.

Late Sunday, the Macon County Emergency Management Agency said it would be out performing damage assessments Monday with the National Weather Service and American Red Cross, and urged residents to report damage. Everyone who was displaced by the storms have been provided with shelter, according to the EMA.

In Macon County, the weather service reported at least nine homes with damage, but no reports of injuries, according to WAND.

Damage was also reported to homes, roofs and trees in Pontiac, WGN reported.
