Storms, Dangerous Heat To Start Week In Chicago Area: Here's When Big Cooldown Is Coming
A heat advisory has been issued for most of the Chicago area on Monday.
ILLINOIS — Morning storms and dangerous heat are expected to kick off this week's weather. Scattered storms are expected to continue through parts of the Chicago area through mid-morning on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
The threat for severe weather is low, NWS said, but stronger storms could produce 30 to 40 mph winds and torrential rain.
There is also a heat advisory in effect for dangerous heat expected on Monday. The heat advisory has been issued for Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Lake, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Cook and Will counties, from noon to 9 p.m. Monday.

The weather service said heat index values up to 105 to 109 are expected

Another strong storm complex could approach the area late Monday as well. The weather service said the complex will be in a "decaying mode" as it arrives, but could still bring damaging winds across northwest Illinois.

Tuesday will have a high of 94, and dangerous heat is again expected. The weather service said peak heat index values could be as high as 110.
Increasing winds behind a cold front on Wednesday will result in high waves and dangerous swimming conditions at Lake Michigan beaches through Thursday, according to the weather service.
Much cooler conditions will close out the week, with a high of 84 on Wednesday, 78 on Thursday and 77 on Friday.

MONDAY: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 105. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon.
MONDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 76. West northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
TUESDAY: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 107. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon.
TUESDAY NIGHT: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. North northeast wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 10 mph.
WEDNESDAY: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Northeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77.
