Drivers of certain Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, RAM and Volkswagen vehicles will be affected, police said.

ILLINOIS — Drivers of certain vehicles will receive safety alerts from state police via navigation apps and vehicle infotainment systems, authorities announced this week.
The state is partnering with HAAS Alert to expand notifications to select Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, RAM and Volkswagen vehicles, according to state police. The notifications will be powered by HAAS Alert’s Safety Cloud delivery system.
“Move Over crashes are preventable and we’ve had too many troopers killed and injured because of them,” state police Director Brendan Kelly said in a news release Wednesday. “To keep both ISP troopers and drivers safe, ISP continues to identify new ways to alert people when they need to slow down and move over.”

The new notification system will help drivers see where state police are handling a crash or other traffic activity, authorities said. As drivers approach the GPS location of a trooper, they will see a police icon and receive an alert to slow down and move over.
