ILLINOIS — As we head into a new week, Patch has rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend.

As early voters headed to the polls on Sunday, one man is accused of causing a disturbance that led to him punching an election judge in the face before scuffling with police.

A family is in mourning after an early morning house fire claimed the lives of a father and his adult son, and left two other relatives hospitalized.

The early morning fire tore through the home, killing two family members and sending two others to the hospital. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the family pay for the funerals and medical care in the wake of the tragedy. So far, the community has raised nearly $40,000.

Election Judge Punched In Face, Man, 24, Arrested: Police

Police say the man became irate after being told to go to the back of the line, scuffling with poll workers and punching one in the face. The punch knocked the judge's glasses off their face, officials said. After being restrained by other voters, police say he also scuffled with police.

Guest Shot After Exiting Room At Red Roof Inn: Police

Police say a group of four people knocked on the door of a second-floor room and confronted two sleeping occupants. The victim reportedly exited the room and was shot. Police said the wounded male ran to the motel office and asked the clerk to call 911.

Hooded Man Offers Kids Free Candy At Park: Police

A man hiding in a cluster of trees Friday afternoon near an elementary school called to children to offer them free candy, police said. The kids walked toward the voice and found a man under an orange blanket calling to them, offering free candy, according to a news release. The children said the man was older, wearing all black and a hooded sweatshirt.

Man Gave Cocaine To Woman, Then Sexually Assaulted Her: State's Attorney

"He exploited his relationship with this victim to sexually assault her," prosecutors said in a statement. "He did not count on her strength in coming forward and reporting this offense."
