Chicago Flights Canceled, Delayed By Fog From Winter Storm
Nearly 300 flights have been delayed or canceled at Midway and O'Hare airports, a day after a winter storm canceled 1,700 U.S. flights.
CHICAGO — Nearly 300 flights at Chicago’s two major airports have either been delayed or canceled on Thursday as foggy conditions continue to linger after a passing winter storm left part of the greater Chicago area dealing with icy conditions.
A total of 67 flights at O’Hare International Airport have been canceled as of Thursday morning while 178 flights have been delayed due to weather conditions, according to the flight-tracking website FlightAware.com. Meanwhile, at Midway Airport, only 13 flights have been canceled and 37 are running on delay.
The airport issues come a day after more than 100 flights were canceled in Chicago as a passing winter storm that was slated to drop historic amounts of snow across Minnesota and Wisconsin passed through Illinois before moving east.

The winter storm has caused more than 1,700 flights to be canceled across the United States and delayed another 6,400 flights at airports across the country, CNN reported. Airports in Minneapolis, Denver and Detroit were the most affected by the storm as areas of the country experienced heavy snow and ice storms that caused power outages.
In the greater Chicago area, most of the icy conditions were reported in the northern suburbs where forecasters were calling for nearly a half-inch of ice to build up. Areas around Chicago and to the west and south of the city saw mostly rainy conditions throughout the day on Thursday before the winter system moved out of the region.

After temperatures across the region started in the low 40s on Thursday morning, temperatures are expected to drop throughout the day. The National Weather Service said that wind gusts could reach 35-40 mph in the afternoon hours before blustery conditions move in overnight.
Temperatures are only expected to be in the upper 20s to low 30s on Friday before more mild air settles back into the area over the weekend and into the start of next week.
