Foul Play Not Suspected In University Of Illinois Student's Death: PD

Akul Dhawan, 18, was found dead on the porch of a building near campus Saturday and police believe initially that his death was accidental.

CHAMPAIGN, IL — University of Illinois police investigators believe that foul play was not involved in the death of an 18-year-old student who was found dead early Saturday morning.

University police said that Akul Dhawan was found dead on the porch of a building on West Nevada Street at 11 a.m. on Saturday, hours after his roommate called and said he could not locate Dhawan.

Police said that they received a call from the roommate around 1:30 a.m. when Dhawan was reported missing. Police said that Dhawan was found by a university employee.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday, but investigators said that they believe the cause of Dhawan’s death to be accidental. Police said that initial reports suggest that foul play was not being considered in the student’s death.

According to his LinkedIn page, Dhawan is from San Mateo, Calif.
