Frigid Weather On The Way: Wind Chills Of 30 Below Zero For Illinois

Highs will only be in the single digits on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

ILLINOIS — Enjoy the mild temperatures on Friday, before bitter cold arrives on Saturday night, bringing dangerously cold wind chills to the Chicago area.

According to the National Weather Service, the high for Saturday will be 28 degrees, with wind hills in the single digits or teens. The frigid weather will arrive Saturday night, bringing wind chills as low as 15 below zero.

The coldest conditions will be Sunday night through Tuesday morning, the weather service said.

The high for Sunday is 2 degrees, and the high for Monday is 1 degree, according to the current forecast. Wind chills could be as low as 30 below zero in some places.

Frostbite is possible within 30 minutes in those conditions, the weather service advised.

Rapid ice build-up on rivers may cause ice jams, the weather service said. There is an increased threat for localized flooding near the ice jams.

After Tuesday, temperatures will regulate, with a high of 21 on Wednesday and a high of 29 on Thursday, according to the current forecast.
