Governor Pritzker Signs Law Hiking Illinois' Minimum Wage To $15

Minimum wage across Illinois will be raised to $15 an hour by 2025.

ACROSS ILLINOIS — Governor J.B. Pritzker has approved legislation to increase minimum wage across Illinois. On Tuesday, the governor signed the bill into law, according to the Illinois General Assembly website. This comes less than a week after the bill was sent to Pritzker.

The legislation, sponsored by Chicago Democratic Rep. Will Guzzardi, will increase Illinois' minimum wage from $8.25 to $9.25 on Jan. 1; to $10 on July 1, 2020; and $1 each Jan. 1 until 2025.

According to WLS-TV, Pritzker released a statement, calling Tuesday a "resounding victory for the 1.4 million Illinoisans who will soon get a hard-earned and well-deserved raise."

"Phasing in the minimum wage over the next six years will put $6,300 a year into the pockets of nearly a quarter of our state's workforce and billions of dollars into local economies in every corner of our state," Pritzker said, according to the news report.
