While Kit Kat was the most favored in Illinois, it didn't make the top 10 across the country.

Skittles was the most popular Halloween candy across the country, with the ever-beloved M&M's, Snickers, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Starburst rounding out the top five.

While the above candies dominated a large section of the country, Jolly Ranchers made a surprise appearance as the favorite treat in Arizona, Georgia, and Utah.

Which has to leave you feeling a little sorry for children in the Jolly Rancher hotbeds.

Ninety-five percent of the 179 million Americans who celebrate Halloween will purchase candy for the holiday, according to the study. On average, they will spend $27, and nearly 25 percent of all those purchases are made online.
