Heat, Humidity Slowly Return; Hazy Skies Continue For Illinois

ILLINOIS — The first full week of August will start warm, with temperatures slowly climbing each day this week, according to the National Weather Service.

After several days of poor air quality, hazy skies will continue this week, "with patchy instances of smoke reaching the surface," the weather service said.

According to AirNow.gov, the air quality as of Monday morning in Chicago was 137, which puts it in the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" category.

The work week will be mostly dry and sunny; however, there is a slight chance for showers and storms on Monday afternoon south of a Streator to Fowler, Indiana, line.

The weather service said there will also be another chance of showers and storms on Tuesday, mainly south of Interstate 80.

"Temperatures and humidity increase through the week," the weather service said on its Facebook.

Monday will start out with a high of 82 degrees, but by Friday, the high will be 92. Here is a more detailed look at the weather this week, per the weather service:

MONDAY: Widespread haze. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. East wind 5 to 10 mph.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 10 mph.

TUESDAY: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. East wind 5 to 10 mph.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 67. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 10 mph.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Calm wind becoming south southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 10 mph.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 68.

THURSDAY: Sunny, with a high near 89.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 70.

FRIDAY: Sunny, with a high near 91.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 72.
