Here Are Illinois' Safest Cities: New List
According to a list created with Illinois crime and law enforcement data, here are the safest cities in Illinois.
ILLINOIS — A recent list of Illinois' safest cities compiled by BackgroundChecks.org puts two Chicago suburbs at the top. The data, taken from FBI crime statistics, includes crime levels and law enforcement worker to civilian ratios. They only included cities with a population of 10,000 or above.
The list put Warrenville in DuPage County and Deerfield on the north shore at the top of the list, mentioning their "award-winning public school systems and thriving local economies." Those two cities ended up with a score of .91.
"While Chicago’s violent crime problem often gets national attention, the city’s suburbs are among the safest and best places to raise a family in the country," the study noted.

To get the scores, the website divided crime rates by populations. They weighed violent crime more than property crime, and added safety points for law enforcement workers. They called it a "safety index score." The higher the score, the safer the city.
