Hurricane Helene Remnants Bring Winds Up To 55 MPH To IL

The strongest winds will be from 4 p.m. to midnight on Friday.

ILLINOIS — Gusts up to 55 mph are possible on Friday, as remnants of Hurricane Helene approach from the south, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service said building waves on southern Lake Michigan could also result in dangerous conditions along the shore.

The strongest winds will be from 4 p.m. to midnight on Friday. Most of the Chicago area will see gusts up to 45 mph, with even stronger gusts possible for the Kankakee River Valley.

South of the Chicago area, a wind advisory has been issued from 1 p.m. to midnight on Friday for Kankakee, Livingston, Iroquois and Ford counties.

The weather service said the strong winds could down tree branches, make travel hazardous on west to east roads, and cause possible power outages.

Rain is also possible Friday evening, and into Saturday.

"Shower chances will peak late [Friday night] into Saturday, but not everyone will get rain," the weather service said on its Facebook.
