IL Ranked Among Safest States For A Night Out, Study Says
The least safe state to go out after dark was determined to be Tennessee.
ILLINOIS — Illinois is one of the safest states to enjoy a night out on the town, according to a recent study.
Criminal defense firm Suzuki Law Offices used data from the FBI and WorldPopulationReview to assign each state a safety score out of 100. Factors taken into account in the scoring process included the number of police officers per 100,000 residents as well as the infrequency of both victim-related crimes such as purse snatching and society-related crimes like drunk driving or drug use.
Illinois ranked seventh with a score of 66.33, according to the study, which noted the state had the fourth least frequent society-related crimes and the seventh highest number of police officers per resident but also the 20th highest frequency of victim-related crimes.

The least safe state to go out after dark was Tennessee, with a score of 37.67, followed by Nevada at 38.25 and Delaware at 39.12.
“The data highlights that some of the major tourist destinations in the United States, such as Florida and New York, have enough resources to ensure safety for both residents and tourists,” Richard Suzuki of Suzuki Law Offices said in a news release. “However, Nevada, which is also a popular tourist spot due to Las Vegas, is not a very safe place.”
