IL Sen. Duckworth Tests Positive For COVID-19, Will Work In Isolation

ILLINOIS — U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth will work in isolation for the remainder of the week after she announced on Thursday that she tested positive for COVID-19I

Duckworth, who defeated Republican challenger Kathy Salvi in November’s general election to gain a second term said that her symptoms are mild. Duckworth, who is vaccinated and double boosted, said her doctor suggested working in isolation as of way of keeping her family, staff, and Senate colleagues safe.

“I — and families of more than a million Americans we’ve lost to this pandemic — know it could be much worse,” Duckworth said in a statement issued by her office on Thursday. “I cannot encourage my fellow Americans more strongly to get vaccinated and continue getting your boosters as advised by medical professionals and around the globe.”

Duckworth joins several other Illinois lawmakers who previously tested positive for COVID-19, including U.S. Reps. Sean Casten, Lauren Underwood, Brad Schneider and Bobby Rush.
