Lake Effect Snow To Start Week In IL, Temps In The 20s All Week

The highest snow amounts are expected across Lake County and central/northern Cook County on Monday.

ILLINOIS — Lake effect snow is expected Monday for the Chicago area after a snowstorm brought heavy snow and ice to central and southern Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service, lake effect snow will develop Monday morning across northeast Illinois, and then pivot southeast throughout the day.

The highest snow amounts are expected across Lake County and central/northern Cook County, where 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected.

Winds may also gust up to 30 mph on Monday, with a high of 30 degrees, according to the weather service.

The colder weather will continue through the week, with highs only in the 20s. The high for Tuesday is 26, 22 on Wednesday, 26 on Thursday and 29 on Friday, according to the weather service forecast.

After Monday's lake effect snow, it looks to be dry through mid-week, with the next chance of snow on Friday.

The weather service said on its Facebook that it is "keeping an eye for the potential of another snowy system at the end of the week."
