Man Dies After Riot Fest, Jewel-Osco Carjacking: Illinois Weekend

ILLINOIS — As we head into a new week, Patch has rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend.

A 58-year-old suburban man died days after his family said he was injured during Riot Fest, and police are looking for a hit-and-run driver that killed a bicyclist in another suburb.

Meanwhile, the shooter responsible for a killing in the suburbs was still at large, and a crash shut down the roadway.

Man Injured At Riot Fest Dies: GoFundMe

The 58-year-old was attending the music festival with his daughter last month. Family said he went missing during the festival and was found injured, later dying in the hospital.

Man Accused Of Carjacking Teen In Jewel-Osco Parking Lot

The man approached the teen sitting in her parked car while wearing a ski mask and ordered her out of the car at gunpoint, police said. According to officials, the man ordered her out of the vehicle several times while waving the gun while threatening to shoot her. Detectives, using camera footage obtained from plate readers and security video from Jewel-Osco, were able to piece events together and identify the accused carjacker.

City Inundated With Emails On Controversial Library Speaker

The city estimates it received 30,000 emails last month about a group's controversial plan to show a film critical of the Israeli government. Last month, the library in another suburb received 8,000 emails and hundreds of calls asking to cancel a group's presentation of a documentary titled "Israelism."

Bicyclist, 56, Dies In Hit-And-Run

The motorist who hit him drove off before authorities arrived on the scene to offer medical attention to the dying cyclist. The victim was discovered by an uninvolved passing motorist, who called 911.

Crash Closes Eastbound Lanes Of Highway

Police were urging drivers to avoid the area, if possible. Drivers in the area were urged to use caution and follow officers who are directing traffic.

The shooting does not appear to be random, according to police.

Shooter Still At Large After Man Slain

No one was in custody after the man was found with multiple gunshot wounds Saturday afternoon. Police say the same man was arrested last week on allegations he assaulted a landlord.

Man Gets 32 Years For Criminal Sexual Assault Of A Child

In addition to the prison term, he must register for life as a sex offender. According to the state's attorney's office, between 2016 and 2023, the man committed acts of sexual abuse against three separate victims. Two of the victims were under the age of 13 at the time of the offenses, and the other victim was under the age of 17 at the time of the offense.
