DEKALB, IL — A DeKalb man is charged with murder after he killed a woman in their shared home, according to police.

Devonne L. Montgomery, 30, of the 800 block of West Hillcrest Drive, faces two counts of first-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery and possession of a weapon by a felon in connection with the death of 31-year-old Jasmine Dejournette, police said.

Officers responded Tuesday morning to the residence for a report of an unresponsive woman, according to police, who said Montgomery met them at the door and they found Dejournette unconscious on the floor of the apartment. She had significant facial injuries and was pronounced dead, police said.

“Jasmine was a beautiful soul — kind, loving, and selfless — always putting others before herself,” her family said in a GoFundMe webpage to raise money for her funeral. “She had an incredible spirit, a heart full of love, and a presence that could light up any room.”

Montgomery, who has previous convictions for aggravated battery via discharge of a gun and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon with a vehicle, was charged and arrested Wednesday following an investigation, according to police.
