Man Shot By Secret Service Traveled From IN To DC: Authorities

Local police had warned the Secret Service of a "suicidal individual" possibly traveling from Indiana, the agency said.

WASHINGTON, DC — A man who traveled from Indiana to Washington, D.C. was shot Sunday by Secret Service personnel after an armed confrontation with law enforcement in the nation's capital, according to the agency.

Police on Saturday warned the Secret Service of a “suicidal individual” possibly traveling to Washington from Indiana, the federal agency said in a prepared statement.

Secret Service members encountered the man’s parked vehicle around midnight near 17th and F streets and saw a man on foot nearby matching the person’s description, according to the agency.

Officers approached, the man brandished a gun and a confrontation ensued, with shots fired by the Secret Service, the agency said, adding the man was taken to a hospital and his condition was unknown. President Donald Trump was in Florida at the time of the shooting.

No Secret Service personnel were injured and the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigations Team is investigating.
