The milk may contain food-grade cleaning agents, the Illinois-based company said.

Prairie Farms, the Illinois-based producer of various milk products, is recalling its gallon-sized fat-free milk distributed to Woodman's Markets over potential contamination with food-grade cleaning agents, the company announced.

Prairie Farms learned of the potential quality issue on Nov. 24. An investigation determined that about 320 gallons of the affected milk were sold before the issue was discovered.

The affected milk has the code date "DEC08" and plant code "PLT19-145." The UPC is 7273023117. It was produced between 5:51 p.m. and 9:23 p.m. at Prairie Farms' facility in Dubuque, Iowa and distributed to Woodman's stores in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Consumers who purchased the product are urged not to consume it. They should instead dispose of it or return it for a refund from where they purchased it. All remaining affected products have been removed from store shelves.

Woodman's operates six stores in Illinois, including North Aurora, Buffalo Grove and Carpentersville, and is in the midst of constructing an additional supermarket in Plainfield.
