Near-Record Warmth Before Storm System Hits Chicago Area

Temps could approach 80 degrees by the end of the week.

ILLINOIS — A warm week is ahead, with high temperatures on Monday around 20 degrees above normal, according to the National Weather Service Chicago.

The high on Monday is 70 degrees, and could tie the record 70 degree high which was set in 1955.

The weather service said a strong, lake-charge cold front will cool temperatures on Tuesday, but temps will mainly cool near the lake. The high on Tuesday is 62, with temps in the 30s expected near the lake.

The warm temperatures continue through the end of the week, with a high of 67 on Wednesday, 74 on Thursday and 77 degrees on Friday, according to the weather service.

"Conditions turn windy and warm Friday ahead of the next storm system," the weather service said on its Facebook.

Friday night features an elevated thunderstorm risk, according to the weather service. There is a potential for strong to severe storms on Friday night, and very strong non-thunderstorm winds are likely late Friday night into Saturday.
