New Requirement For Teen Drivers In IL
Teen drivers in the state will soon have a new requirement during their learner's permit phase.
ILLINOIS — Teen drivers in Illinois will soon have a new requirement during their learner’s permit phase, according to state authorities.
Teens will have to watch a video detailing the consequences of dangerous driving behaviors before they get their license, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced last week.
Giannoulias made the announcement during Teen Driver Safety Week, at which time he launched a distracted driving awareness campaign, citing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data that drivers ages 15-34 are the most likely to be distracted during a fatal crash.

Giannoulias did not disclose when the new requirement would go into effect. Other learner's permit mandates include a vision screening, a written exam and, for drivers under age 17 and three months, a driver education course.
