CHICAGO — The temperatures may finally be ready to turn a corner toward spring this week, but as is typical for this time of year in the greater Chicago area, a change of season can be accompanied by steady periods of rainy weather and roller coaster temperatures.

The upcoming week will be no different.

After Sunday produced mild temperatures and periods of sunshine following a wet week, the National Weather Service is predicting chances of rain for much of the workweek before temperatures again turn cooler for the weekend.

Forecasters predict that rain and possible thunderstorms overnight on Sunday usher in the first chance of rain starting on Monday. Most of the rain could stay south of Interstate 55, forecasters said, but the region will be under a 30 percent chance of rain during the day as temperatures surge near 60.

More rain and possible thunderstorms are predicted for the area on Tuesday when temperatures will again flirt with 60 as the chances of rain in the afternoon hovers around 40 percent for much of the area.

Temperatures will warm up dramatically on Wednesday, when much of the area could see 70-degree readings, forecasters predict. But like the first part of the week, there will be a chance of rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. Forecasters are calling for an 80 percent chance of rain on Wednesday before the rain finally moves out of the area early Thursday morning.

The region will get another peek at the sun on Thursday when temperatures will struggle to reach 50 before the sun sticks around for another mild day on Good Friday when temperatures will stick around 50 before cooler air moves into the area for Easter weekend.
