Scattered Storms Possible Friday; 100-Degree Heat Index Expected Sunday
Saturday will see a brief break from the humidity, but it will return on Sunday.
ILLINOIS — Scattered thunderstorms are expected to bring in the weekend on Friday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.
In a weather pattern similar to the last two days, widely scattered storms could develop Friday afternoon, mainly for areas around and southeast of Interstate 55, the weather service said.
The strongest storms could produce damaging winds and small hail.

After Friday, "there will be a break from the oppressive humidity and scattered storms tonight through Saturday night," the weather service said on its Facebook.
Saturday will be less humid, but still with a high of 90 degrees.

Humidity will return on Sunday, as well as a chance for scattered thunderstorms. There is a limited excessive heat risk on Sunday, which will have a high of 94 with a heat index value of 100 degrees, according to the current forecast.
"Another round of scattered storms may occur on Monday ahead of a stronger cold front that will usher in noticeably less humid conditions for a few days next week," the weather service said.

FRIDAY: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1 and 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Heat index values as high as 95. West southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.
SATURDAY: Sunny, with a high near 88. North northeast wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 70. East southeast wind around 5 mph becoming south after midnight.
SUNDAY: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
SUNDAY NIGHT: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71.
