ILLINOIS —Several inches of snow is possible with a winter storm on Wednesday that is set to impact the Chicago area, especially during the Wednesday afternoon commute, according to the National Weather Service.
Before the winter weather on Wednesday, there is also a chance for some light snow on Monday night into Tuesday, the weather service said. Monday will have a high of 37, and Tuesday a high of 34.

Then, on Wednesday, "confidence continues to increase that a winter storm system will impact the Midwest and Great Lakes region..." the weather service said. Exact snow amounts are still uncertain, but there is "an increasing potential" for several inches of snow.

The heaviest snow may fall during the Wednesday afternoon commute, the weather service said.

The weather service said that colder air will spread across the area on Thursday night into Friday morning, and a second potential winter storm may move across the Chicago area again late Friday into Saturday. The high for Thursday is 23, and 30 degrees on Friday.
