Severe Storms Could Hit Before Heat, Humidity Return To Chicago
Dangerous heat with up to 115-degree heat index will begin building back up early next week
ILLINOIS — Severe storms will continue in the Chicagoland through the weekend before giving way to another potentially dangerous heatwave, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service said heavy rainfall and scattered storms will happen Friday, with localized flood threats and gusty winds.
"A period of slow-moving showers and thunderstorms Friday night through Saturday may bring another round of torrential rainfall and the potential for flooding across portions of the area," the weather service said.

Forecasters are still warning about hazardous weather Friday across the Chicago area. Residents can expect torrential rainfall, funnel clouds and occasional lightning strikes, the weather service said.
Peak heat is expected to build into early next week, with peaks of up to 115 possible.

Saturday will have a high of 88, Sunday a high of 91 and Monday a high of 94. Storms are possible both Saturday and Sunday, according to the current forecast.
Here is a more detailed look at the daily forecast, per the weather service:
FRIDAY: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 12 p.m. Mostly cloudy with temperatures falling to around 72 by 5 p.m. Wind gusts could reach up to 15 mph with a 50 percent chance of rain.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Chance of showers and thunderstorms, likely after 4 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent with rainfall amounts predicted to be between a quarter and half an inch.
SATURDAY: A 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph with a limited flooding risk.
SATURDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy with a low around 75 and a 40 percent chance of precipitation.
SUNDAY: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 87 and wind gusts up to 10 mph.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy with a low around 77.
MONDAY: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny with a high near 93.
MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 75.
