Snow Totals Released For Next Winter Storm Targeting Chicago Area

"This may lead to slippery road conditions overnight into early Friday morning, including for the morning commute," the weather service said

A wintry pattern will settle into the Chicago area through early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

This pattern will bring "intermittent snow showers, cold temperatures and periods of blustery winds," the weather service said on its Facebook. At times, wind chills will dip below zero, especially during the weekend and the start of the work week.

The next round of snow is expected Thursday night into Friday morning. According to the weather service, amounts will vary across the area, but amounts will be around an inch to 2 inches of snow.

Winds could also gust up to 30 mph during this time. The weather service said there is some uncertainty on exact start and end times, but will generally be from after sunset on Thursday to after sunrise on Friday.

More snow is possible into early next week as well. There are chances of intermittent snow showers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

According to the current forecast, highs will be in the 30s on Thursday and Friday, a high of 21 on Saturday and a high of 20 degrees on Sunday. Wind chills could be as low as 10 below zero on Saturday and Sunday, and 20 below zero on Monday.

Here's a more detailed look at the weather through the weekend, per the weather service:

THURSDAY: A 20 percent chance of flurries with a slight chance of snow after 5 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 26. North wind around 10 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Snow. Temperature falling to near 24 by 8 p.m., then rising to around 28 during the remainder of the night. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

FRIDAY: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

SATURDAY: A chance of flurries with a slight chance of snow showers before noon, then a chance of snow showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 19. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

SATURDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of flurries with a slight chance of snow showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9.

SUNDAY: A chance of flurries after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 18.

SUNDAY NIGHT: A chance of flurries before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 5.
