Stormy, Hot And Humid Weather Returns To Chicago Area

Severe storms are possible Monday afternoon. If storms do form, there could be damaging winds, quarter-sized hail, and possible tornadoes.

ILLINOIS — A hot, humid and stormy weather pattern will return to the Chicago area this week, with multiple chances for strong to severe storms, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday will have a high of 85, with rain and embedded thunderstorms expected in the morning. Severe weather is not expected with these storms, but there could be locally heavy rain, the weather service said.

More storms are possible on Monday afternoon, but storms may not develop due to the morning rain and clouds, according to the weather service. However, if storms do form, there could be damaging winds, quarter-sized hail, and possible tornadoes.

Dry weather will start the day on Tuesday, but then there will be periodic chances for storms Tuesday night through Thursday night, according to the weather service.

Tuesday through Thursday will also be humid, with a high of 91 expected all three days. Heat index values may exceed 100 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, mainly for areas south of Interstate 80, the weather service said.

This active weather pattern through the end of the week will bring multiple chances of storms, and some could be severe, with mainly a damaging wind threat, according to the weather service.
