Stormy Weather Could Last 5 Days In Chicago Area

With a 105-degree heat index possible, this weekend will kick off nearly a week of storm chances.

ILLINOIS — A "more active weather pattern" is coming to the Chicago area as hot and humid conditions return, according to the National Weather Service.

Heat index values on Friday and Saturday will be near 100 degrees, the weather service said. The high for Friday is 93, and the high for Saturday is 94 degrees.

Periodic chances for showers and storms will begin late Saturday afternoon and continue into next week. Hot temperatures continue on Sunday, with a high of 92 and a high of 88 on Monday, according to the current forecast.

A few storms on Saturday afternoon and evening could be strong to severe, with a threat of locally damaging wind gusts, mainly north and west of Interstate 55, according to the weather service.

There is an elevated storm risk with an associated level 1 of 5 severe storm risk on Saturday. Then, for Sunday through Wednesday, there is a limited storm risk at times.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 98. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 73. South wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

SATURDAY: Sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 101. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

SATURDAY NIGHT: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

SUNDAY: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. South southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

SUNDAY NIGHT: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73.
