The average temperature for summer 2025, which includes June, July and August, was 75 degrees.
ILLINOIS — Now that meteorological summer has ended, it looks like summer 2025 ended up with above normal temperatures and near normal rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.
The average temperature for summer 2025, which includes June, July and August, was 75 degrees (at Chicago/O'Hare), which is 1.7 degrees above normal, the weather service said.
Precipitation came in at 12.95 inches, which was .89 inches above normal.

August itself was actually slightly below normal temperature-wise, with an average temperature of 73.3 degrees, which is .5 degrees below normal, according to the weather service. Precipitation was measured at 5.03 inches for the month, which is .78 inches above normal.

No daily or top ten monthly records were set for Chicago during July or August. However, in June, Chicago had several records due to rain and the warmer than normal temperatures.

According to the weather service, the records established include:
- A record daily liquid precipitation of 1.86 inches on June 18
- Record daily warmest low temperature of 78 degrees on June 21
- Record daily warmest low temperature of 80 degrees on June 22
- Tied the record daily warmest low temperature of 79 degrees on June 23
- Tied the record daily warmest low temperature of 77 degrees on June 26
June 2025 also tied for the sixth-warmest June on record, the weather service said. Chicago weather records date back to 1871 for precipitation and 1872 for temperatures.
