CHICAGO — A week after Chicago-area residents enjoyed the warmest temperatures of the year with readings into the low 80s, this weekend will bring some milder air before cooler temperatures move back in.

But you will need your umbrella to start the weekend.

The National Weather Service is calling for an 80 percent chance of rain on Saturday when temperatures are expected to approach 70 degrees. There will be a chance of rain – and even thunderstorms throughout the day before the rain moves later in the day, forecasters predict.

Breezy conditions will stick around and wind gusts could reach up to 35 mph and the region could see between a quarter-inch and half-inch of rain before things dry off.

The rain comes ahead of a cold front, which will bring much cooler air into the area for the second half of the weekend. Rain is expected to continue in the overnight hours of Saturday and more thunderstorms are possible.
