Tornadoes, Damaging Winds Possible For Chicago Area: NWS

A first round of storms could bring lightning and downpours, but a second round could be more severe.

ILLINOIS — Two rounds of storms are expected to pass through Illinois on Sunday, and while the first round could bring downpours, lightning and gusty winds, the second round could be more severe, the National Weather Service said.

The first round is expected to move out of the area by 1 p.m.

A second round of scattered storms may develop after 4 p.m. and continue into the evening. Those storms could bring damaging winds, hail and potential tornadoes.

However, "if the first round of storms remains widespread into the early afternoon, the severe through will diminish and focus farther south in the afternoon and evening," the National Weather Service said.
