Torrential Rain, More Storms Possible Monday, Temp Drop Tuesday For IL
NWS is also warning of dangerous, life-threatening currents along Lake Michigan.

ILLINOIS —After a rainy Sunday, Monday is starting off with more rain and storms and the potential for flooding in some areas.
There are flood warnings and advisories in other parts of Illinois, and a flood watch for Cook, DuPage, McHenry, Lake and Kane counties. A dangerous flash-flooding situation is developing in Boone and Winnebago counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Some areas already received several inches of rain Sunday. Here are some rainfall totals:
- 3.57 inches in parts of Tinley Park
- 2.27 inches in New Lenox
- 2.18 inches in Joliet
- 1.56 inches in Orland Park
More storms are likely Monday afternoon, mainly before 3 p.m. Some could produce heavy rainfall.

Thunderstorms with rainfall rates of 2 inches or more per hour are possible, which could cause flash flooding in low-lying or flood-prone areas, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents should stay away from flooded ditches, culverts, canals and detention ponds.
Dangerous swimming conditions will likely develop this afternoon along Lake Michigan, with waves up to 3 to 6 feet. Dangerous conditions, including life-threatening currents, will likely persist through Tuesday afternoon.
The rest of the week will be cooler and less humid, NWS said. Tuesday will be mostly sunny, with mostly clear skies Tuesday night.
Wednesday will be sunny with a high near 84 degrees and a chance of showers and storms Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
