CHICAGO — More than a week after the greater Chicago area got its first taste of summer, the Memorial Day weekend will usher in more sunshine and warmth in the unofficial start to the upcoming season.

The National Weather Service is predicting that temperatures will heat up dramatically starting on Sunday when the warmth moves back into the region. After a pleasant start to the long holiday weekend with an abundance of sunshine and temperatures in the mid-70s, Sunday will see highs in the upper 80s.

In between, forecasters predict that the region could see a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms in the overnight hours of Saturday into Sunday. Forecasters are only calling for about a 20 percent chance of rain before Sunday produces more sunshine.
