ILLINOIS — Despite the sunny skies, Easter Sunday is an unseasonably cool one, and the day will end with a return to winter weather with snow, possibly mixed with rain.

The National Weather Service is expecting wet snow Sunday night into early Monday, with accumulation up to 1 inch, mostly near and north of I-88.

The forecast calls for widespread precipitation starting between 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., with four to six hours of wet snow. Lighter snow mixed with drizzle will fall between 5 and 8 am. Monday.

Drivers should use caution as the wintry mix will sharply reduce visibility at times.

Monday will bring more wet weather, with widely scattered rain and snow showers plus wind gusts of up to 40 mph, making the temperatures in the 40s feel even colder, the National Weather Service said.

After a relatively dry Tuesday, more wet weather and isolated thunderstorms could hit Wednesday afternoon and evening.

After highs in the 40s through Tuesday, temperatures could warm up to the mid-50s or even 60 degrees Wednesday, even as stormy weather hits.

Expect a warm-up by Thursday, though, with a high near 68 degrees but still a chance for showers.
