Wintry Weather Tonight: Snow Expected Tuesday Night Into Wednesday

Snow could impact the Wednesday morning commute, especially for areas north of Interstate 80.​

ILLINOIS — The Chicago area is settling into a "relatively wintry pattern" through the weekend, with the chance for snow several days this week.

"A band or two of snow will move southeast across the area late [Tuesday] into Wednesday morning," the weather service said on its Facebook.

This snow could impact the Wednesday morning commute, especially for areas north of Interstate 80.

The snow will begin around midnight, with 1 to 3 hours of snow in any given location, according to the weather service. Generally, the further north you live, the higher chance you have for impact to travel.

Accumulation could be a coating to an inch of snow locally.

There is also a chance of snow on Thursday through Friday morning, and again on Friday afternoon through Saturday, according to the weather service.

"The best chances for accumulating snow are late tonight into Wednesday morning, later Thursday into Friday morning, and Friday afternoon through Saturday night near the lake," the weather service said.

According to the weather service, Chicago has a white Christmas about 41 percent of the time, which is defined by at least one inch of snow on the ground. The snowiest Christmas was back in 1950, when it snowed 5.1 inches on Christmas Day.
