ALGONQUIN AND LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Brian Zimmerman who nominated four local student-athletes, who started a non-profit organization called Athletes for Athletes during the pandemic, which helps find athletic equipment for people who struggle to afford it.

How do you know the star student athlete?

I am the head football coach at Jacobs High Schol and know the other 2 boys from our community and their on field accomplishments in our school district.

What sport does the star student athlete play?

Will Seibet: Football and Track and Field, Dylan Christopherson: Football, Porter Leith: Football, Wrestling, and Track and Field, Anay Patel: Baseball.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

They are the type of students that other kids aspire to be like. They are kind, they think of others before themselves. When they started this non-for-profit, they weren't looking for recognition, just an opportunity to help those in need. They are all great teammates, they are great student athletes and overall great citizens in our school district and our community.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

That they are all well rounded kids. They are easy to coach, they are team players and never worry about individual stats. They are serious about their academics and it is easy to tell that they bring a positive energy and anything that they do.
