Algonquin House Fire Leaves Firefighter With Minor Injuries

The fire was reported around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday.

ALGONQUIN, IL — One firefighter was left with minor injuries while working to extinuish a fire that caused damage to a home in Algonquin on Tuesday night.

Captain Steve Ciaccio, of the Algonqiun-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, told Patch the fire took place in the 2200 block of Tahoe Parkway in Algonquin. Firefighters were dispatched to the home at 9:05 p.m.

Ciaccio said crews arrived on the scene at 9:10 p.m. and the fire was declared under control only 15 minutes later.

The residents living in the home made it safely out of the house, which was damaged in the fire. Ciaccio said the residents of the home were displaced by the blaze. It's unclear as of writing how many people resided in the home.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Preliminary evidence suggests the fire started in a chimney and was not caused by foul play, the captain said.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the effort to quell the blaze, Ciaccio said. The firefighter was evaluated at the scene of the fire and again in a hospital on Wednesday morning. He has been cleared of major injuries.
