Algonquin Man Sentenced To 10 Years For 2018 Carjacking

Timothy Andrews, 31, was also sentenced to three years in the IDOC for the offense of aggravated assault, officials said.

ALGONQUIN, IL — Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announced Friday that an Algonquin man was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the felony offense of aggravated vehicular hijacking stemming from a February 6, 2018 hit and run car accident. According to a release from the state's attorney's office, Timothy Andrews, 31, was also sentenced to three years in the IDOC for the offense of aggravated assault by the Honorable Sharon Prather. The state's attorney's office said this sentence will run concurrent with his aggravated vehicular hijacking sentence.

According to a release, officers investigating the February 2018 hit and run received a call about a suspicious subject, and saw Andrews when they responded to the report. Andrews took off when officers tried making contact with him, but he was later found Andrews hiding between some trees, the state's attorney's office said.

Andrews was armed with a knife and lunged at an officer from the Algonquin Police Department before taking off once again, according to a release. He tried to get into a vehicle that was occupied by a father and his two young children, before he broke a window and got inside a car that was occupied by an 83-year-old woman, and tried to steer it from the front passenger side, according to the state's attorney's office.

The woman appeared to have been thrown from the vehicle before Andrews took off in her car, the state's attorney's office said. He ended up crashing the car in Barrington Hills where he was taken into custody.
