Algonquin Woman Gets 6 Years In Prison After Taking Plea Deal In Man's Overdose Death

An Algonquin woman was sentenced to more than six years in prison for selling heroin that led to a 48-year-old man’s overdose death.
Heather Vasil, 29, of the 1000 block of Oak Lane in Algonquin, was charged with drug-induced homicide, a Class X felony.

The charges were filed in connection with the death of James P. Robles. Robles, 48, who was found deceased on June 4, 2020, in Algonquin.
He was found next to a bowl containing suspected heroin residue and holding a bag that also contained suspected heroin residue, according to a motion filed in court.

Toxicology testing showed the presence of heroin and opiates in Roble’s system at the time of his death.
Vasil admitted to facilitating and participating in a drug transaction with Robles hours before he died, the motion said.
The Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force investigated the case.
Prosecutors said Vasil gave Roble the heroin that ultimately led to his death.
On Thursday, Vasil pleaded guilty to an amended charge of delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 2 felony.
In exchange, prosecutors dismissed her more serious Class X charge of drug-induced homicide.
McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt approved the plea deal and sentenced Vasil to six years and six months in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Wilbrandt also recommended Vasil be placed in a substance abuse program, according to a sentencing order.
