$3M Bail For Algonquin Eye Doctor Charged With Murder
Anthony R. Prate would have to post 10 percent, or $300,000, to be released while awaiting trial in his girlfriend's stabbing death.

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL — Bail for an Algonquin eye doctor accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend in November was set at $3 million Thursday, the Daily Herald reported. Anthony R. Prate, 55, was indicted last month in Cook County on murder charges in connection with the stabbing death of Malgorzata B. "Margaret" Daniel, 48, following a dinner party at her Schaumburg home Nov. 23, authorities said.
Associate Judge Steven Gaebel ruled Thursday that Prate would have to post 10 percent, or $300,000, to be released while awaiting trial, andif released would live with his mother in Tinley Park, wear a GPS device, and have electronic home monitoring, the Daily Herald said.
McHenry County authorities announced last month they are monitoring the Schaumburg death investigation to see if any details relate to the March 2011 death of Prate's wife, Bridget Prate, who was pronounced dead after a car crash in Lake in the Hills.

Prate called Schaumburg police around 1:31 a.m. Nov. 23 to the 300 block of Arbor Glen Boulevard and told officers he and his girlfriend had a fight involving a knife, and were both injured, according to police. Officers got to the home and found Daniel stabbed to death inside, according to WLS. An autopsy conducted Nov. 24 by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office ruled Daniel's death a homicide due to more than 20 "cutting injuries," according to WLS.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office approved the charge against Prate who police said was taken into custody after being treated at a hospital for hand and arm injuries.
