Boat Hits Jet Ski, Flees Scene On Fox River: Authorities

Police are searching for the driver of a boat that struck a jet ski, injuring a man, and fled the scene on the Fox River near McHenry Sunday evening.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 8:24 p.m. Sunday to the 1000 block of River Terrace Drive in Johnsburg for a report of a water rescue.

The incident happened on the Fox River at the 105 mile marker, according to Illinois Department of Natural Resources Director of Communications Jayette Bolinski.

A 38-year-old Algonquin man was traveling south on the Fox River on a personal watercraft. A white and red runabout boat struck the man from the rear starboard side, Bolinski told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

The victim was ejected from the watercraft into the water.

He was wearing a personal flotation device. Bystanders reportedly rescued the man from the water and brought him to shore. Paramedics transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Bolinski said the victim suffered injuries to his shoulder and knee that were believed to be non-life-threatening.

The boat did not stop after the crash and was reportedly seen entering a nearby channel, Bolinski added.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police were called to the scene and are investigating.
