Addison Boy IDd As Child Killed After Van Went Into Huntley Pond

Police said 38-year-old Stacy Blume, of Northlake, was driving a Chrysler van on the I-90 WB ramp to Rt. 47 when it went into a pond.

KANE COUNTY, IL — McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne Majewski announced Monday afternoon, March 18 that her office is investigating the Sunday evening death of a male passenger in a minivan that ended up submerged in a Huntley retention pond off of I-90. According to a release from the coroner's office, the deceased has been identified as Cameron V. Simmons, 10, of Addison, Illinois. The minivan Simmons was in exited the I-90 ramp to Illinois Rt. 47 South, and left the roadway before it landed upside down in a retention pond, according to a release.

Illinois State Police and Huntley Fire and Rescue were sent to the scene around 6:47 p.m, where the driver, who officials said is the boy’s mother, and his sister were able to exit the van with help from bystanders, according to a release.

In a release sent to Patch, Illinois State Police said the woman and young girl sustained minor injuries, while the boy's injuries were life-threatening

The young boy, after being extricated from the vehicle by Huntley Fire and Rescue, was taken to Northwestern Hospital-Huntley where according to the coroner's office, he was
pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m.

An autopsy will be performed tomorrow in the McHenry County Coroner’s office, and the crash
remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the McHenry County Coroner’s
Office, officials said.

Illinois State Police said a preliminary investigation determined 38-year-old Stacy Blume, of Northlake, was driving the Chrysler van, with the 10-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy passengers.

Police said the young boy was unresponsive when removed from the vehicle, and a doctor on scene performed CPR on him. The driver and two children were taken to a local hospital by the fire department, police said, where the boy was pronounced dead, according to police.
