The Hampshire Fire Protection District received a call around 9:30 p.m. Friday for a vehicle fire on Interstate 90 at the 41.25 mile marker, which is on the border of Huntley and Hampshire.

A 911 caller reported a Toyota Scion had a possible blown motor and flames were seen from the front hood. The occupants escaped without injury.

The fire district was already on multiple calls in progress and had no units available.

Fire officials said they had multiple calls in progress during six different times on Friday and the vehicle fire was one of 13 incidents that day.

The Pingree Grove Fire Protection District and the Burlington Community Fire Protection District were dispatched to the vehicle fire.

Illinois State Police troopers arrived on the scene first. They found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames on westbound Interstate 90.

Firefighters then arrived and extinguished the blaze.

State troopers reported lanes two and three were blocked due to the incident. The lanes were back open by 10:15 p.m.

A tow truck responded and removed the damaged vehicle from the shoulder of the interstate after the fire department left the scene.
