Carpentersville Man Accused Of Stabbing Person In Mouth

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL — A Carpentersville man faces charges including attempted murder after a person was stabbed in the mouth while sitting in their car Sunday afternoon in a driveway on Tulsa Avenue. Prosecutors with the Kane County State's Attorney's office claim 35-year-old Hugo H. Mendoza-Cardenas, from the 100 block of Caddy Avenue, is accused of going up to the car and stabbing the person in the mouth with a knife while they were sitting in the driver's seat, according to a news release from the state's attorney's office. Mendoza-Cardenas and the person then fought inside the car as Mendoza-Cardenas threatened him, according to the news release.

The person who Mendoza-Cardenas is accused of stabbing also suffered cuts to both hands, and was treated at a local hospital and released.

As a result of an investigation by the Carpentersville Police Department, Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon approved a change of felony attempted murder, felony vehicular invasion and two counts of felony aggravated battery against Mendoza-Cardenas.

Mendoza-Cardenas appeared April 13, 2020, in Kane County bond court. A judge set Mendoza-Cardenas’ bail at $500,000, with 10 percent ($50,000) to apply for bond during a Monday hearing in Kane County bond court, according to the state's attorney's office. The judge set Mendoza-Cardenas' is being held at the Kane County Jail, and the judge set his next court appearance for April 23 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
