Child, 11, Dies In McHenry County Crash: Police

The collision happened Monday evening at Deerpass Road at Kishwaukee Valley Road in unincorporated Marengo.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — An 11-year-old child has died in a two-vehicle collision that happened Monday evening in McHenry County.

The collision happened at about 6:40 p.m. Monday when a 2016 Ford Transit van headed north on Deerpass Road at Kishwaukee Valley Road in unincorporated Marengo failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a 2012 Audi Q5, which was headed east on Kishwaukee Valley Road, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The Audi left the roadway and hit a tree, authorities said. It took emergency responders "only minutes" to get the juvenile, an 11-year-old passenger, out of the car, said Alex Vucha, public information officer for the Marengo Fire & Rescue District.

An 11-year-old passenger in the Audi was flown to Javon Bae Hospital in Rockford and later pronounced dead. The driver of the Audi, a 29-year-old Wonder Lake man, was taken to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock with injuries that are considered serious but not life-threatening.

The driver of the Ford was taken to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock with minor injuries.

The driver and passenger in the Audi were wearing their seat belts, while the driver of the Ford was not. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
