LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — A Lake in the Hills Police Department Officer was sent to the hospital after responding to a chlorine leak Sunday at a well building, officials said, according to the Northwest Herald. According to the news report, around 7:48 a.m. Lake in the Hills police responded to an alarm at a well house in the 300 block of Council Trail, Lake in the Hills Police communications coordinator Ashley Eccles said.

According to Eccles, the Northwest Herald reported the police officer who initially entered the pump house was taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital, and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Assistant Fire Chief Mike Kern added that the officer was treated for potentially breathing in chlorine and has been released.

According to the Northwest Herald, Village Public Works Director Daniel Kaup said the house was shut down after officials learned a small, high-pressure water line connected to the chlorine feed burst, causing less than $1,000 in estimated equipment damage.
