Downtown Algonquin Summer Construction Projects Slated for August

Preliminary work for the Downtown Algonquin redevelopment project is set to begin in August.

ALGONQUIN, IL - Preliminary work for the Downtown Algonquin redevelopment project is set to begin in August.

The upcoming phase of the project will include overhead utility relocation along Main Street from Edward Street south to IL-31/Prairie Trail, officials said. The utilities will be routed underground to allow for future streetscape, pedestrian and lighting improvements on the surface of Main Street.

For the longer term, water main and sanitary sewer replacement work will be start on the aforementioned street section during the winter. The infrastructure improvements are part of about $6.3 million worth that are scheduled for the upcoming year.

All construction will be under way on a block-by-block basis, with intermittent traffic and parking restrictions in place, officials said.

Up-to-date construction details will be available online as the project progresses. Access to area businesses will be maintained throughout the duration of construction and officials encourage residents to continue supporting their local businesses.
